Lithium Iron Phosphate

Limatech chose the Nanophosphate® Lithium Iron Phosphate A123 System technology.
This technology has been selected as the most suitable in terms of power, safety and service life.

Mechatronics architecture

Limatech  mechatronics architecture was designed to meet the DO160, DO311, DO254 aeronautical tests standards.

These aeronautical tests standards are intended for safety and dependability via :

  • Resistance to vibrations / shocks / flames...
  • Resistance to environmental constraints : pressure, humidity, oxidation et corrosion...
  • Resistance to mechanical stresses : torsion, flexion, traction, compression...
  • Electrical protections : courts circuit, sur-tension, sous-tension...
  • Prevention : alarm, electromagnetic field tests...

Balancing strategy

Lithium batteries age differently depending on their charges / discharges and temperature.

Without this technological brick essential to the good fucntionning of a Lithium batterie, accumulators can fall in deep discharge which causes a thermal runaway spreading to the other cells.

Limatech innovations on the Lithium battery balancing optimization strategy make it possible to use all the potential of accumulators, to increase the life expectancy and to increase the safety by preventing the domino effect of the thermal runaway of a defective accumulator.

Thermal strategy

The voltage of Lithium batteries decreases significantly in cold temeratures between -30° and +10° Celsius.

To guarantee the availability of your aircraft, in complete safety, even in extreme temperature conditions, the Limatech batteries integrate :

  • A Cockpit module for precise monitoring of voltage, load and temperature
  • A thermal heater that can be activated from the Cockpit module.

Historization & algorithms

Our BMS management system collects, stores and analyzes usage data of the Lithium Limatech battery in order to establish the State of Health SOH and the State of Charge SOC with precision.

You therefore have control of your maintenance :

PREVENTIVE MAINTENANCE ON USE PROGNOSTICS

SOH & SOC Communication

Treatments and algorithms are nothing without communication.

Thus, SOHh ealth status  information and SOC state of charge of our batteries are communicated to a cockpit module  and soon on your EFIS computer board "Electronic Flight Instrument System".

The future is for connected equipments, so we develop the connected Lithium battery that transmits its information on "Cloud" software to centralise and to rationalise the maintenance and availability of your aircraft.

LITHIUM BATTERY IN COLLABORATION WITH CEA

Resulting from the 2015 First Step challenge of CEA LETI (Commissariat of Atomic and Alternatives Energies) of Grenoble, recognized worldwide for its research and innovations on energies.

In 2017, Limatech launched joint research and development work with Grenoble's LETI on Lithium batteries destined for the start-up of thermal engines for general aviation.

Some Limatech innovations on the security, the availability and the life extension of Lithium batteries have been co-studied, co-authored and co-patented with CEA.

Since LIMATECH took part in the First Step  Challenge in april 2015, I follow with interest LIMATECH's development and technological innovations.

In my opinion, their value propositions and the patented technical solutions that they offer bring a much needed level of innovation that was missing and that is needed in the Aerospace sector.

The project launched in early 2017 and co-financed by the Easytech device is a great success for Limatech.

The agile collaboration that we set up with LETI and the strong team involvement allowed us to develop our proof of concept very quickly, thus effectively validating the technical and functional requirements of our market.
